- Alok Mishra (September 11, 2001) |
It’s ten o’clock in the night,
As I walk alone, down the road.
Houses line up both it’s sides
And eucalyptus trees stand in the front.
|
During the day, hundred footsteps tapped the black surface aimlessly. But, at night only lamp-posts, overlook an otherwise desolate patch.
|
Light filters out of curtains,
Hanging straight behind windows. Shadows dance to and fro in the back, Hard even for a Plato to understand.
|
In the distance, a couple ambles along, With heads turned down and inside. Mumbling some incomprehensible words, And trying to fathom the ways of the world.

Poet's
comment : This
is inspired from Plato's "Cave
Allegory". Plato
has described the Sun, Moon, Earth,
Trees etc. as "Absolutes" and human life in terms of dance of shadow
of prisoners, which fell on the walls.
For Plato, Sun, Moon and other such entities were a higher form of existence
than a man's life. |
