Changing Values

-SHIKHA DHAWAN
India, our mother nation is, not only being counted, in the world’s top most or richest countries in terms of natural resources; but also it’s rich in terms of intellectual assets and values. To be specific the term “values” defines our traditional thinking, opinions, outlooks, ethics and culture that we carry generation to generation; and century to century. Values are not rigid rather than these are prone to changes with modern concepts.

India, being a country which is being regarded as: -

“INDIA – THE COUNTRY OF RICH CULTURE & VALUES”

At the west-end, has been ahead of other nations in these terms. Indian culture said to be most traditional, is liked all across the globe. There are people from the Western and European countries who have faith in our Geeta and Kuran. Now, the number of followers of Lord Krishna and Rama and of Vedas, in the Western & European countries is increasing tremendously. Our morals and social culture are becoming famous among people other than India.

But one ironical fact, is that factors like mechanization, modernization and spread of Western culture among our youth have touched the roots of our pious values, which have opened Western culture is misleading our youth and filling the feeling of rebel in them which is ultimately resulting in premature nuclear families. In the present scenario when the life is running on the hands of the clock, nobody has time to think or carry those so called, outdated beliefs and values which ultimately pose a threat on their freedom and burdensome additional responsibilities on them.

Modernization of thoughts and flexibility in our opinions and outlook with change of time has no gigantic negative effect on our society as a whole. But a drastic change will start cutting the roots of our originality as Indians. Like our Indian traditional food habits and even clothing is seen only in rural areas; instead pizza, burger, jeans pants etc. are in trend among youth on the Western lines. Joint families are merely seen, but nuclear family system is regarded as latest.

Though the value system in our society now is on changing trend, yet the optimistic belief is that still there is a hope that these will revert back to its original basic structure as such trends generally circular. Also,

‘The aura of Indian tradition and culture is like an “ICE-BERG” , strong enough to fight its odds , therefore can never be lost.’
