Arriving in Wells

- Anupma

Royal Tunbridge Wells, when I heard the name for the first time I really could not believe it was a town.  To me it sounded more like a tourist spot.  So here I came with a picture in my mind of a place with cluster of wells.  But as we drove in and I got the first glimpse of this picture post card settlement nestled in small hills.  It truly was a surprise a very pleasant one at that. Small cottage like homes with lots of greens seemed like the perfect place.  No high rises, no honking, no sea of people God was this for real??

I was eager to explore the place and as I walked around I noticed the amazing number of Gardens and Forests all in the heart of the town.  You could just escape and be with yourself within ten minutes walk! I think this is what impressed me most.  The amount of nature one could enjoy at any time.

I decided to find out why the place was called what it is called?  There is a story after all and there is a well after all.  It goes like this, in this place of beautiful weather there exists a small natural spring, full of rich minerals and so the name! Royal got added to it because from medieval times the rich and the famous favored the locale due to its excellent climate.  I wouldn't blame them as it truly is heavenly.  So names are not just names after all.

Since I was here I had to taste the waters of this spring.  And as promised I could taste the rich minerals and hoped that the rest of the promise about eternal beauty would also come true for me.  Will let you know after a few years!!!

My day was coming to an end as I walked back enjoying the fragrance of autumn and the crisp air.   For me it was love at first sight and I felt euphoric !!
